A Message from Tom Imboden

Tom ImbodenMy name is Tom Imboden and I am an assistant professor at the School of Information Systems and Applied Technologies (ISAT) at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. I wanted to take a moment to briefly introduce our school and to invite your interested faculty and students to attend an event that is quickly approaching. The 'Security Dawgs' are the 2013 and 2014 Illinois Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition champions! On Apr. 23, 2016, ISAT and the ‘Security Dawgs’ will be hosting a day full of cyber security activities. The event will be located at ISAT in the Applied Sciences and Arts building, 1365 Douglas Drive, Carbondale, 62901.

ISAT offers an undergraduate degree program in Information Systems Technologies (IST) which provides a course of study dedicated to information assurance and security in addition to course work in web design and development, application development, database administration, project management, and other technical areas. Our school has been designated a national Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE/IAE) by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Security Agency (NSA). Our students are regularly hired by a wide range of local, regional, and national companies and organizations. Many are currently employed in positions defending information systems and networks from cyber adversaries.

Our ‘Security Dawgs’ student cyber defense team has been competing in Collegiate Cyber Defense Competitions since 2006, advancing to regionals and nationals several times. The ‘Security Dawgs’ are the 2013 Illinois Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition champions! In conjunction with the ‘Security Dawgs’ competing in the 2016 Illinois Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition on Apr. 23, 2016, ISAT and the ‘Security Dawgs’ will be hosting a day full of cyber security activities. We will have speakers talking about security topics, tours of our classroom and lab facilities, lunch, door prizes, and even the opportunity to participate in a mock competition. A list of speakers and topics is attached at the bottom of this invitation.

Please find the attached flier for SIU Cyber Security Day 2016 and share with interested faculty and students.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions about ISAT, our IST program, SIU Cyber Security Day 2016, the ‘Security Dawgs’, or anything else I may be able to assist with.

Thanks for your time and consideration. We hope to see you and any students interested in information technology and cyber security at SIU Cyber Security Day 2016.
