Dr. Andrey Soares, Assistant Professor of Information Systems Technologies (IST), has been accepted to the U.S. National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) Biomedical Informatics Course. This week-long survey course is designed to familiarize individuals with the application of computer technologies and information science in biomedicine and health science. Topics discussed in the course include: principles of biomedical data representation, standardization of terminology and communication, clinical decision support, mathematical modeling, clinical information systems, genetics/genomics, the use of literature and molecular sequence databases, human computer interaction, imaging informatics, natural language processing, big data, the cloud, public health informatics, and tele-health. All costs for the course including travel, housing, and meals are supported by NLM. The course will provide opportunities for networking with nationally known bioinformatics educators and leaders.
