CASA Kick-Off Meeting
Agust 18, 2017
The Academic Year 2017-18 College Kick-Off Meeting was held on Friday, August 18, 2017, 10:00am - 11:30am. Chancellor Carlo Montemagno and Associate Provost for Academic Programs Lizette Chevalier gave opening remarks and took photos with CASA faculty and staff.
We begin the new academic year with some important milestones. CASA is now the largest college on campus in terms of total enrollment. CASA offers the largest off-campus and online programs, contributing approximately one-third of the overall distance education revenue to the University. It is especially noteworthy that we continue to attract bright students, extraordinary faculty and talented staff during a time of seemingly relentless budget reductions and fiscal constraints at both the state and the University level. I commend each of you for the hard work, dedication, and commitment you have shown in our quest to become the best applied sciences and arts college in the nation.
Despite the uncertain fiscal situation, CASA will continue to focus on its mission to create and implement outstanding academic programs and conduct high-impact research and creative activity. All these build on industry collaboration and regional need and provide community and professional service that make a difference to the people of the state of Illinois and beyond. Improving the College research profile and increasing our research productivity will be among our strategic goals in the new academic year. This year will also see a continued focus on developing resources to support our academic programs and daily operations.
Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Mike Behrmann presented the academic achievements of the College during the past year, including new academic degree programs and specializations, accreditation and certification, excellence of our students, student organizations, and nationally recognized student teams. As pointed out by Dr. Tom Shaw, Associate Dean for Administration, CASA distance education programs have been growing significantly over the past three years. As of last Monday (August 14, 2017), CASA’s distance education student population made up 39.45% of the overall SIUC distance education enrollment.
A new academic year brings new hope and new vision. We strongly believe the best things are ahead of us. Have a great new academic year!
